How we collect your information

We gather information about donors directly and through third parties. For example, you may supply information via a form on our website or when you make a donation through a third party such as Enthuse, Just Giving or other online donation platforms.

What information we may collect

  • your contact details and identifiers such as name, address, email address, postal address and contact phone number

  • contact preferences and permissions

  • your interests and reasons for donating

  • details about your donation(s)

  • for events enquirers and participants, we may collect additional information such as date of birth

  • from time to time, when we run a fundraising campaign on social media platforms, we collect information about activity on our fundraising web pages.

What we use your information for

We use your information in order to:

  • process donations you have made to us

  • keep you updated about our work and fundraising campaigns

  • ensure compliance and prevent fraud

  • ensure that the content we share with you is relevant and appropriate

  • help us run fundraising campaigns effectively (see our cookie statement for more about how we use this technology)

Who we share your information with

Examples of who we may share your details with include:

  • the organisers of events you’re attending as long as it is justified and lawful, to help ensure your safe participation 

  • HMRC so that we can provide tax and Gift Aid information 

  • Local Citizens Advice offices to allow them to contact you about donations that you have requested to be transferred to them

We will not share your information outside of our service unless we are required to do so to:

  • assist police enquiries 

  • meet our legal obligations

  • prevent fraud 

  • protect your safety or the safety of others

This includes providing tax and gift aid information to HMRC.

With your permission we may share your details with local Citizens Advice offices to allow them to contact you about donations and fundraising.

Legitimate interest - if you have made a donation or have shown interest in the work of Citizens Advice, we can reasonably assume you would like to hear more about our work and fundraising activities. You will have the right to opt out of any contact at any time.

Consent - where we are carrying out electronic marketing we will gather consent where necessary to comply with marketing regulations.
