About the role
We are looking for a self-motivated, organised and adaptable General Adviser to join our team under various projects. In this role, you will provide advice across a range of topics, assisting clients over the phone, virtually, face-to-face and at outreach locations. You will deliver generalist-level advice and information, ensuring clients receive the support they need to navigate complex issues. We will also train you to provide advice at casework level under the various projects we have (benefits, energy, debt).
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing advice on a wide range of topics.
• Assisting clients with completing paper and digital forms.
• Making referrals to internal and external services.
• Recording client interactions, outcomes and referrals electronically.
This role requires digital proficiency, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Key Requirements
Essential:
• Strong IT skills, with the ability to support the delivery of advice.
• Confidence in encouraging and assisting others to use online systems and resources for self-help.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including sensitive listening and questioning, to understand and address client needs.
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret complex information and present clear reports.
• Awareness of barriers individuals face in accessing services.
• A solid understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in service provision.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and engage in open, respectful discussions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn, develop skills and adapt to evolving service needs.
• Awareness of social issues and their impact on clients.
• Ability to support research and campaigns by gathering and sharing relevant client information.
• Commitment to the aims and principles of Citizens Advice and its equal opportunities policies.
Desirable:
• Fully trained as a Generalist Adviser within Citizens Advice.
